Charo Santos, Boots Anson-Roa, and Barbie Forteza to star in new Brillante Mendoza film

December 16 ------ Charo Santos, Boots Anson-Roa, and Barbie Forteza will star together in a new movie with award-winning director Brillante Mendoza.

Barbie shared the news on her Instagram Stories, reposting the post of film director Real Florido. "Auteur Brillante Mendoza is back with a film that will surely break your hearts into pieces, starring the awe-inspiring performances of Charo Santos, Boots Anson-Roa, and Barbie Forteza," Real wrote. Other details of the movie project are yet to be announced.

Brillante is the first Filipino filmmaker to win Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving the honor for his 2009 film Kinatay. That same year, his film Lola won Best Film at the Dubai International Film Festival. His 2012 film Captive competed at the Berlin International Film Festival, while Thy Womb was in competition for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival, earning him the Achievement in Directing award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Recently, his 2021 sports biographical film Gensan Punch premiered at the Busan International Film Festival and won the Kim Jiseok Award.

Meanwhile, Charo recently starred in the movie Only We Know alongside Dingdong Dantes released in June this year. The movie follows the story of "a retired teacher (Betty) and a widowed engineer (Ryan) [who] form an unexpected friendship as they deal with loneliness and judgment, questioning if their connection might evolve into something more meaningful," as per IMDb.

Boots' latest acting project was the television series Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune in 2022. She played the role of Doña Consuelo Yang-Chan. The series follows the "revolves around the unexpected death of a business tycoon and leader of a prominent Chinese-Filipino clan, as per IMDb.

Barbie recently starred in the Netflix film Kontrabida Academy alongside Eugene Domingo. "When a mysterious TV transports her to a school for on-screen villains, a restaurant worker finds new purpose - and a way to get back at her enemies," reads the plot of the movie according to its IMDb.
