August 16 ------ CARLOS Yulo will compete in front of the Filipino fans next year when the Philippines hosts the 2026 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president Cynthia Carrion confirmed that the Asian Gymnastics Union has awarded the hosting of the event, a follow-up to the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships that will also be held in Manila from November 20 to 24 at the Manila Marriott Hotel.
It will be the first time that Yulo will see action in the Philippines since the 2019 Southeast Asian Games where he won two gold medals. He went on to make history by winning two gold medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics. “We asked already for the hosting for the Asian senior, and they gave it to us already,” Carrion told reporters at the sidelines of the media launch of the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships.
The date for the competition is still to be determined. “It will happen towards the end of the year,” said Carrion, assuring that Yulo will be seeing action in next year’s Asian showpiece. “Of course. And he’s got to win,” said Carrion. Yulo bagged a gold medal in the floor exercise of this year’s Asian Gymnastics Championships held in Jecheon, Korea - the 11th continental crown of his career and his fourth straight in the apparatus.
The last time the Philippines hosted an Asian gymnastics competition was the 2023 Rythmic Gymnastics Asian Championship held at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. It is going to be a busy next few months for GAP with the hosting of the third edition of the Junior World Championships where 83 countries are participating.
