October 20 ------ CARLOS Yulo booked a place in the vault and floor exercise final of the 53rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia on Sunday.

The two-time Olympic champion topped the qualification round of the vault with a total of 14.750, and finished second in the floor exercise with a score of 14.700. Yulo will first compete for the gold medal in the floor exercise on Friday, followed by the vault on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Yulo is only competing in two apparatuses owing to a wrist injury, and is not eligible for a podium in the all-around. The two apparatuses, however, are the strongest suits of Yulo, winning the world title in the floor in 2019 and vault in 2021.

Yulo is expected to battle Artur Davtyan for the vault gold after the Armenian scored 14.566 on Saturday. Jake Jarman of Great Britain is also a contender for the floor exercise mint after topping the qualification with a score of 14.700.

Yulo’s sister Elaiza, Olympians Aleah Finnegan and Emma Malabuyo, and Haylee Garcia will begin their campaign in the world championship on Monday.
