Carl Tamayo, LG Sakers reach KBL Finals; Sonicboom stay alive

April 30 ------ CARL Tamayo and the Changwon LG Sakers advanced to the Korean Basketball League (KBL) Finals after a dramatic 76-74 Game Three victory over Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus at Dongcheon Gymnasium. Assem Marei scored on an undergoal stab with 3.5 seconds left after Yang Jun Seok's offensive board off of a Tamayo missed jumper that gave the visitors the lead. It was the most crucial of dimes for Yang who showed the way with 17 points, seven assists, and three rebounds to power the No. 2-seeded Changwon to the best-of-seven championship series.
Tamayo, for his part, nabbed 16 points, three boards, and three assists in the closer to wrap up the 3-0 sweep of Ulsan. Marei also fired 16 points, 17 rebounds, and seven assists in the Sakers victory. Migs Oczon did his best for Ulsan with 10 points built on two treys, alongside seven assists in the exit. Gaige Prim shouldered the load for the Mobis Phoebus with his 19 points and 14 boards. Meanwhile, JD Cagulangan and Suwon KT Sonicboom lived to fight another day with a 77-64 Game Three conquest over Seoul SK Knights at Suwon KT Arena on Sunday.
The KBL Rookie of the Year was happy to set the table with his seven points, six assists, two rebounds, and two steals to get the Sonicboom on the board in the best-of-five semis. Rayshaun Hammonds led Suwon with 19 points, 11 boards, and two assists, while Heo Hoon shot three treys for his 17 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Juan Gomez de Liaño once again sat out the game as the top-seeded Seoul leaned on Jameel Warney's 19 points, 15 rebounds, and six assists in the Knights' first defeat in the postseason. Seoul, however, can move on to the finals and set up a date against Changwon with a Game Four victory on Tuesday.
