October 16 ------ Nashville-based singer-songwriter Caleb Hearn visited the Philippines for the first time, performing at the Venice Grand Canal Mall. The artist, known for his viral hit “Little Bit Better,” recently released new singles including “Play It Safe,” “Bite the Bullet,” and “The Lows.”
Music Geek had an exclusive interview with the artist ahead of his performance, where he shared that it was his first time visiting and performing in front of a Filipino audience. Since 2019, Hearn has been releasing self-produced and self-written songs, and it was during the pandemic that he decided to pursue music full-time.
Talking about his latest single, he shared that his relationship with his wife, whom he considers his anchor, inspired the song. “When you meet somebody that you truly love, you want to grow old and live. It’s watching what you eat, trying to live a better life so that you can be together longer.”
Through the song, he hopes listeners — especially those in relationships — connect with its message about being mindful of their own well-being while staying considerate and emotionally aware of their partner.
As a songwriter, he enjoys the songwriting process— writing sincerely and staying authentic to his message. He described his songwriting as emotional, honest, and vulnerable, emphasizing his sincerity in connecting with his listeners.
However, he admitted that he occasionally struggles with self-confidence, often comparing his work to that of other artists. He overcomes this by constantly reminding himself that making music is what matters. He also shared advice he received from someone in the music industry that he still follows. “You can’t write about writing.” For instance, he explained that the focus of his craft shouldn’t revolve around writing as many songs as possible to produce a hit song. Slowing down and living life, he shared, is essential to songwriting, as it ultimately leads to the songs that truly resonate.
Reflecting on his growth as an artist, Hearn shared how his music has evolved alongside his personal journey, shaping both his vision and purpose. He said that as he matured, his sound and songwriting naturally changed, reflecting the person he has become.
With online platforms serving as launching pads for artists and their music, Hearn also had his share of viral success through his hit, “Little Bit Better.” Released in 2024 with singer-songwriter Rosie, the melodic track offers comfort through its message of emotional support, which resonated with listeners worldwide. “It embodies an emotion that everyone, no matter where they’re from, what language they speak, can connect to. No one is meant to walk alone, whether that’s a friend, family, a partner — the whole emotion of the song is there’s someone out there for everybody.”
The artist noted that today’s music landscape offers more opportunities than ever, with platforms making it easier to share and discover songs. However, he also acknowledged the challenge of standing out as more artists release their work online. “We live in a world where it’s limitless in how much message and impact you can make on someone’s life. It can be challenging, but it’s a beautiful thing as well,” he said. Fans can also look forward to new music and an upcoming album. His next single, “Silver Lining,” is set for release on October 17, building anticipation for his future projects.
