MANILA, November 30 ------ The fuel surcharge for December will stay at level 4, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) announced. CAB has been implementing level 4 fuel surcharge since October. At this level, the fuel surcharge ranges from PHP117 to PHP342 for domestic flights, and PHP385.70 to PHP2,867.82 for international flights, depending on the distance.
"Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this Office (of the Executive Director) on or before the effectivity period," CAB said in an advisory dated Nov. 18 but posted Nov. 22. The applicable conversion rate is USD1 is to PHP57.89, the advisory added.
Fuel surcharge is the extra fee that airlines may collect in addition to the base fare to cover the costs incurred from the volatility of fuel. Local carriers are also lobbying to charge a "terminal enhancement fee" from passengers, to cushion the impact of increased aeronautical fees at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport since September. The price range of the terminal enhancement fee would also vary depending on the flight distance. The proposed terminal enhancement fee is under review of the CAB.
