April 12 ------ The reigning queens of Binibining Pilipinas brought joy and learning to children using literature as a tool in an afternoon of fun and purpose. Binibining Pilipinas International Katrina Anne Johnson and Binibining Pilipinas Globe Annabelle McDonnell paid a visit to the students of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catechetical Ministry OLPH) Catechetical Ministry in Quezon City.
The two reigning queens took part in the “Liwanag Reading Program” of the ministry that aims to instill the love of reading among children. Aside from having a storytelling session with the children, Johnson and McDonnell also got to showcase their teaching skills to the students. The ministry also conducted art activities with the students, where the queens got to marvel at the children’s creativity and knack for the arts.
Johnson and McDonnell, through the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI), also distributed food and school supplies to the children under the ministry’s care. Charity is the heart of the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, and the queens and candidates take part in charitable activities with partner organizations and institutions throughout the year.
Johnson and McDonnell are set to relinquish their crowns to their successors later this year. Thirty-six candidates from across the country are vying for their titles. McDonnell landed a Top 11 spot at The Miss Globe pageant in Albania last year, while Johnson is scheduled to compete in the 64th Miss International pageant in Japan in November.
