August 28 ------ The occasion marked the release of their first official photo book, “Journey Through the BINIverse: A BINI Photo Journal,” a 228-page chronicle of their rise from pandemic debutantes to pop powerhouses. More than merchandise, it is part of the group’s fourth-anniversary celebration and, as The Manila Times Entertainment reported online on the same day, had already sold out its limited run of 2,000 copies.
All eight members — Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna and Sheena — welcomed lucky members of their massive fanbase, the Blooms, who filled the theater for games and stories ahead of the much-awaited signing. In the Q&A, the girls recalled how the project came together and how the pages capture not only their triumphs but also the struggles behind them. “It really shows a reminder na ito yung mga na-accomplish namin, but people didn’t know na ang dami pa lang nangyari behind those photos (It really serves as a reminder of what we’ve accomplished, but people didn’t know that so much actually happened behind those photos), Aiah reflected, pointing to the story beneath the polished images.” The photo book itself is aptly themed “Hometown to World Stage: The Heart, The Hustle, The Heights,” with QR codes scattered through its pages unlocking personal messages from the girls.
During an added interview, the members reflected on the journey so far. Asked what kind of song they might write today to capture their experiences, they mentioned titles like “More Than a Battle,” “Look Back,” and “Pain Into Power.” As BINI leader Johanna explained, “Kapag may criticisms o controversies, we choose to take the noise and turn it into something na mas makakatulong sa amin. We turn the pain into power (When there are criticisms or controversies, we choose to take the noise and turn it into something that will help us. We turn the pain into power).” The fan gathering was also the perfect moment to look ahead. BINI thrilled Blooms with announcements of a packed schedule: from performing at “ASAP” in England’s BP Pulse Live in Birmingham later this month, to “Coke Studio Season 9” at The Araneta Coliseum, regional festivals, and ultimately their year-end “BINIFied” concert, again, at the Philippine Arena.
From topping Billboard Philippines Songs with “Pantropiko” and “Salamin, Salamin,” to winning “Best Asia Act” at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards and being named Billboard Philippines’ Women of the Year, BINI has made good on their early dreams of going global.
Four years in, their “Journey Through the BINIverse” is far from over — and judging from the passion of their fandom and the drive of these eight young women, the best chapters are still to come.
