BINI looks back at Summer Sonic festival experience

August 18 ------ Fresh from the Mountain Stage in Tokyo, ABS-CBN News caught up with Philippines’ powerhouse girl group BINI as they talked about and looked back at the challenges they faced before and while performing at the Summer Sonic music festival.

There was a big relief off their chests after their Tokyo performance went smoothly. “I’m so happy tapos na itong Tokyo, because we can focus back on our World Tour routines. I'm so happy na nagawa namin siya despite the busy schedule, na-squeeze in namin itong Japan Summer Sonic event,” said Aiah.

But she confessed, there were doubts if they can pull this off. “I was so worried and scared about the jetlag. I was so worried, na baka hindi ako makatulog nang maayos, and baka because of that mahirapan ako with functioning, but I made it. We all made it. It’s a happy performance, ang daming natuwang mga Filipinos, and even mga Japanese especially nung times na nag-ja-Japanese kami.”

Maloi was one of the girls who intensively spoke Japanese onstage. She shared that she studied her Japanese spiels all night. “'Yung Japanese spiels ko, inaral ko siya kagabi pa, as in kahapon pa, bago ako matulog, paggising ko ng madaling araw, 3:30 ako nagising, nag-aral na ako agad ng Japanese spiels ko,” she said.

The Tokyo venue was indoor and was less hotter in terms of temperature. The intense heat and the outdoor venue in Osaka posed as a challenge to the girls. “Actually, umiyak kami after ng performance namin sa Osaka,” said Colet. “Kasi feeling namin hindi namin na-give 'yung best namin, so kailangan talaga namin bumawi dito sa Tokyo. Thank you Lord, maganda ang crowd. Madaming tao. Kinabahan kami kasi nung una, wala masyadong tao but then unti-unting lumalapit 'yung mga tao, sobrang nag-enjoy kami grabe.”

Maloi added, “Sobrang na-hype kami kahit alam namin na ang culture ng mga Japanese hindi sila palasigaw, hindi sila pala-cheer. Pero we felt the warmth, alam mo yung love nila, welcome na welcome kami. I personally enjoyed it.”

Mikha also praised their dancers, the Besties, for their professionalism despite dancing in super tight costumes in the middle of hot weather. “I’m so proud of the Besties, nakita niyo naman sobrang init din ng suot nila. I think that the Japanese crowd, they enjoyed our Nihonggo. And I hope we did well, kasi pinractice talaga naman siya mga girls.”

Aiah wanted to thank all the Filipino blooms who flew in to Tokyo just to catch them onstage and even the Japanese Blooms and new fans who were amazed by their debut performance in Summer Sonic. “Nippon Blooms, I hope you continue to support us! Thank you for accepting us and for your warm welcome! We hope to come back here as much as possible we want to come here, because it’s such a beautiful country.”

After Summer Sonic, the girls will fly now to Canada for the second half of their North American leg of their Signals World Tour.
