December 25 ------ Bianca de Vera, Will Ashley, and Dustin Yu had no trace — or at least, they did their best — to hide their nerves as they reeled in their experiences at their first Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
De Vera, Ashley, and Yu are the lead stars of “Love You So Bad,” which tells the story of a bubbly young woman named Savannah who is torn between the calm Vic and adventurous LA. Aside from the romantic comedy, Ashley is part of “Bar Boys: After School” while Yu is in the third episode of “Shake, Rattle & Roll Evil Origins.” There are a lot to take in at once for the trio in their MMFF debut. Still, they chose to focus on their exciting firsts. “This is our first time [to be part of an MMFF film], first time namin makakita ng mga floats in person,” she told reporters in a brief chat before the Parade of Stars. “[Natuwa] kami kasi may iba’t iba silang paandar [per film], ang saya. Ramdam namin ang pasko.”
Ashley and Yu said it wasn’t until the Parade of Stars where they felt that they were indeed part of the film festival. “Unti-unti nang nagsi-sink in sa’kin na parang, ‘Shocks. Totoo ba ‘to?’ Nasa MMFF tayo and kasama ako dito? Kasama kami dito? The excitement ng promo namin ay nadagdagan,” he said. “Hindi lang ‘to MMFF kung walang float. Ang saya makita ang bawat pelikula and floats,” Yu said, agreeing with his co-stars’ remarks.
The romcom marks Mae Cruz Alviar’s second time to be part of the MMFF. Her first entry was “Rewind” starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes which is currently the second highest-grossing Filipino film of all time. But there is no pressure for Alviar to exceed her past record. “Hindi maco-compare ang ‘Rewind’ sa ‘Love You So Bad,’ it’s like comparing apples and oranges,” she said. “Hindi talaga siya makukumpara. We just want to deliver a good story and a good film without thinking of ‘Rewind’ and that’s what matters.” “Love You So Bad” also stars Xyriel Manabat, Ralph de Leon, Nour Hooshmand, and Reign Parani.
