Bank of China donates 500-K medical masks to DOH

March 30 ------ Bank of China Limited, a major Chinese state-owned financial institution, has donated 500,000 disposable medical masks to the Department of Health (DOH). Through its Manila branch, Bank of China delivered the donations to the DOH headquarters on Saturday (March 28), amid the uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases.

Bank of China Country Manager Deng Jun cited the importance of being compassionate in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We all have our roles to play in this challenging situation. As the most internationalized bank in China, Bank of China places a great deal of importance on being a family. And as members of one big family, we need to remember that it is also our responsibility to help keep each other healthy and safe,” the bank official said in a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Manila.

The Bank of China official also said the 500,000 disposable medical masks will be used by the DOH to protect vulnerable Filipino citizens from contracting the coronavirus. The boxes containing the masks bore the old Filipino saying, “Matibay ang walis, palibhasa’y magkabigkis (The broom is strong because it is bound tightly),” a message that there is strength in unity.

DOH’s Bureau of International Health Cooperation officials led by Dr. Miko Amansec and Dr. Mar Wynn Bello received the donation from Bank of China. “This is a much-needed donation in these very critical and trying times. We want to thank Bank of China for their invaluable assistance,” Dr. Amansec said.
