JAKARTA, Indonesia, January 27 ------ Chokers. Losers. Those were among the nasty names that have been associated with Aurora Gaming PH throughout the past year or so after repeated heartbreaks and foiled chances, both domestic and abroad. What matters now, though, is what people will be calling them moving forward -- champions of the world. The Northern Lights' long journey full of doubts, setbacks, and tears finally ended in triumph after a sweep of the host country’s darlings, Alter Ego, 4-0, to secure the M7 World Championship, Sunday at the Tennis Indoor Senayan in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In the moment that mattered most, the Northern Lights rose above past failures, erasing memories of their M6 early exit while making history by extending the Philippines’ M-Series title streak to six with a complete utter domination of Alter Ego the best-of-seven finale.
In the opening game of the series, Aurora Gaming PH imposed its sheer will by taking control of resources, map control, and objectives, with Dylan “Light” Catipon’s Hylos anchoring the frontline with both durability and aggression.
Aurora PH wasted no time striking first in the grand finals, overwhelming Alter Ego’s last two defenders in a decisive 14-minute base push. Light steered Aurora PH to victory with an impressive 3-1-10 KDA performance. In Game 2, Aurora PH kept its momentum going and remained deathless until the 4-minute clash against the Indonesian team. Alter Ego stood its ground and contested the 15-minute Lord in an attempt to swing the momentum, but disaster struck when Edward “Edward” Dapadap’s Sora picked off Yazukee’s Soyou. The pickoff created a massive opening, allowing Aurora PH to collapse on Alter Ego and go straight for the base at 15 minutes. Known for being a daredevil, Edward’s Sora propelled Aurora PH to 2-0 lead with a 7-2-8 KDA performance.
The Northern Lights delivered another standout showing in Game 3, shutting down Alter Ego’s momentum in the grand finals and building a 10k-plus gold lead before ending the game in just 10 minutes and 55 seconds. Edward also proved that he doesn’t just have a killer instinct but also a high IQ, delaying Nino’s Lapu-Lapu from recalling back to the base that ultimately allowed Aurora PH to be unstoppable in the final push. Light was at his brilliant best, posting an impressive 1-1-11 KDA to help Aurora to a 3–0 match point over Alter Ego.
In Game 4, Alter Ego was desperate to keep the championship dream alive and Arfy, playing as Granger, even executed a triple kill just to defend his base during the 11-minute siege. But Aurora PH’s prowess was too much to handle as Domengkite on Harith quickly responded with a double kill to finally wipe out Alter Ego. Light was hailed as the M7 Finals MVP, where he will also get a chance to select a hero of his own that will receive a Finals MVP skin. Aurora Gaming PH entered the M7 seeking redemption from their early exit in M6, and now, the world witnessed how far they have come with sheer will, determination, and a heart that never gave up.
