January 20 ------ AURORA Gaming PH secured a spot in the upper bracket semifinals by beating Team Liquid, sending the Golden Road-seeking squad to the lower bracket with a 2-1 victory on Day 1 of the M7 World Championship Knockout Stage in Jakarta.
The two Pinoy representatives went toe-to-toe in a gripping 23-minute Game 1 before the Northern Lights prevailed to claim the opening win of the best-of-three quarterfinals. After stacking his Sky Piercer, Dominic “Domengkite” Del Mundo unleashed Granger’s firepower to secure a clutch Lord steal and eliminate Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno’s Yi Sun Shin in the 22-minute fight.
Down to just two defenders, Dylan “Light” Catipon’s Grock smartly zoned out and stalled Alston “Sanji” Pabico’s Pharsa from recalling, opening the door for Aurora PH’s four-man base siege as Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya’s Uranus failed to stop the siege. Domengkite’s excellent marksmanship was on full display, and he delivered with an impressive 8-1-5 KDA.
In Game 2, Team Liquid quickly made adjustments to dominate Aurora PH in terms of gold lead, map control, and objective control. The Cavalry sealed the win after an explosive 11-minute midlane clash, sparked by Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz’s Khaleed trapping three Aurora PH players with a perfectly timed Raging Sandstorm, paving the way for Kiel “Oheb” Soriano’s Blazing Duet on Claude that broke Aurora’s formation and secured a double kill.
Jaypee once again showcased his consistency in the frontlines, securing MVP honors with a 2-1-6 KDA as Team Liquid and Aurora PH ended the series tied at 1-1. Team Liquid looked in control early in Game 3, but Aurora PH flipped the script with a stunning comeback sparked by Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto’s Joy second Lord secure and a decisive midlane jungle teamfight at the 15-minute mark.
Disaster struck the Cavalry when KarlTzy’s Lancelot lost the Retribution battle to Demonkite, allowing Domengkite to slip into the backlines and take down Sanji. Edward “Edward” Dapadap, true to his nickname Mr. Consistent, achieved a 4-2-5 KDA on Yu Zhong.
