October 1 ------ AURORA Gaming once again showed why it’s the team to beat in the MPL Philippines Season 16, after extending its winning streak to nine straight games to become the first squad to punch a ticket to the playoffs after a dominant Week 6 run. The Northern Lights continued to shine brightly after toppling fellow contenders in ONIC Philippines and Team Liquid Philippines in their second-round regular season matchups. Here’s a quick look back at how Aurora stamped their dominance in Week 6.
Aurora Gaming edged out M6 World Champions ONIC Philippines with a thrilling 2-1 victory, spoiling its rivals’ hopes of avenging its Week 2 loss. In Game 1, Aurora and ONIC PH both showed discipline and caution, resulting in a low-kill affair. The turning point came at the 12-minute Lord fight, where Aurora seized the perfect chance to run down ONIC PH after Dominic “Domengkite” Del Mundo on Wanwan activated Crossbow of Tang. With just one survivor left for ONIC PH, Aurora charged ahead for the final push to claim the opening win of the series.
Kenneth “Yue” Tadeo on Kimmy was a steady presence in midlane, finishing with a 2-1-7 KDA and perfect kill participation. Refusing to bow down, ONIC PH struck back in Game 2 as Cyric “K1NGKONG” Perez on Joy scored a double kill during an 18-minute midlane skirmish before securing the Lord uncontested. ONIC PH stayed composed and patient, a decision that paid off when K1NGKONG secured the crucial Lord and dove into the backline, eliminating two Aurora members in the 22-minute clash. The MVP was none other than K1NGKONG, delivering a standout 10-1-3 KDA to force a deciding Game 3. But Aurora had one final ace up its sleeve in the form of Domengkite’s Granger.
The Northern Lights wasted no time in Game 3, with Domengkite landing a game-winning triple kill during the base turret siege. Domengkite proved Granger deadly in his hands, closing the match with a flawless 8-0-1 KDA. Aurora Gaming overpowered Team Liquid Philippines with a clean 2-0 sweep, extending its win streak to nine in the regular season. In Game 1, Aurora completely dominated, controlling the map, securing major objectives, and before capping it off with a lopsided 19-2 kill score. Dylan “Light” Catipon on Grock was immovable on the frontline, finishing with a perfect 4-0-11 KDA to anchor the victory.
Team Liquid PH fought hard in Game 2, but it was not enough to change the outcome as Aurora rode on the momentum of its overwhelming Game 1. Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto on Akai came up with a Heavy Spin play to continuously disrupt the Cavalry and leave no breathing room for Team Liquid PH during the final push. With daring clash initiations on Arlott, Edward “Edward” Dapadap secured the MVP title behind a perfect 3-0-11 KDA. Aurora Gaming now boasts a 9-1 record in the regular season and sets its sights on Week 7, where they aim to hit a double-digit win streak against the hungry Twisted Minds.
