October 26 ------ Arkin Magalona, son of the legendary Master Rapper Francis Magalona, is on a quest to make his mark as a hip-hop artist with the release of his debut single “Shake Dat Thang.”
The new single comes with Arkin’s signing with Sony Music Entertainment, as announced by the music label in a press statement. It was also announced that he will take on the moniker Barq as he carves his own path in the music scene. “I’m just getting started, and I can’t wait to share more songs, more collaborations, and a more confident version of myself with everyone,” he said.
Produced by Kyleaux, “Shake That Thang” is an ode to the Y2K era, featuring elements from 2000s hip-hop music combined with his signature flair. “We were vibing to music from the 2000s: Neptunes, 50 Cent, Timbaland, Pharrell, Kanye, and all the greats. It was our first time working together, and we just bounced off each other’s energy until everything fell perfectly into place,” the rising artist explained.
According to Barq, it was chosen as his debut single due to its “playful yet fresh sound.” “I chose this as my debut single because I wanted to make a statement that I’m here and ready to shake things up in the scene. I want listeners to have fun, let loose, and enjoy this different side of me,” he said. “‘Shake Dat Thang’ represents that playful yet fresh sound I want to be known for. It’s about reminding people that having fun is one of the most important parts of making anything in life,” he added.
Before releasing his debut single, Barq had long garnered the public’s attention for inheriting his late father’s rap prowess. One of his recent appearances was at Billboard Philippines’ Pinoy Hip-Hop Mixtape 2025 party last July.
