August 18 ------ Actress and singer Arci Muñoz has worn many hats in her career - leading lady, rock vocalist, military reservist. Her latest move takes her beyond the realm of showbiz and into the world of global media production.
What some fans might not know is that Arci hails from the Duavit family, one of the most prominent names in Philippine broadcasting. She is related to Gilberto “Jimmy” Roy Duavit Jr., chairman emeritus and CEO of GMA Network Inc., and Congressman Michael John “Jack” Duavit, a board member of the same network.
While her surname links her to a television legacy, Arci has made a point of charting her course. Arci's latest venture, NDM Studios, now has offices in Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore, with projects designed to bring Filipino stories to an international audience. The company’s work ranges from full-scale productions to cultural collaborations, aiming to connect creatives from Asia and beyond.
Industry watchers note that the move is in step with a growing appetite for cross-cultural content in streaming platforms and global media festivals. Adding to her expanding résumé, Arci has been named Selection Committee Member and Council Representative for Miss Universe Egypt 2025. The role puts her at the heart of a major international pageant, where she will help select contestants and advocate for diversity and women’s empowerment. It’s a development that surprised some followers. Still, Arci sees it as a natural extension of her career: building bridges between cultures and creating opportunities for Filipino talent to be recognized on the world stage.
Earlier this year, Arci posted a photo on her Instagram story captioned “Little fam reunion”. The image, taken at a formal gala, showed her with members of the Duavit family. It quickly made the rounds online, prompting a wave of curiosity about her media roots. Those connections, however, have rarely been the focus of her showbiz life. Arci has earned her own following acting in indie films and primetime dramas, while also fronting the alternative rock band Philia and taking on projects that challenge her range.
With her production company positioned for international projects, Arci says she is keen on working with both established and emerging Filipino artists. The goal, she explains, is to create work that can stand alongside global productions while retaining its cultural soul. ‘I’ve always believed in telling stories that travel,’ Arci said. "Our talent as Filipinos deserves to be seen and celebrated everywhere."
