Angat, other dams water level still not at ‘comfortable’ level

MANILA, Philippines, October 18 ------ The water level in Angat Dam and other reservoirs are still not at a “comfortable” level even after the rains brought by the recent cyclones, the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said.

“Sa ngayon, partikular dito po sa Luzon na apektado po ng maraming pag-uulan pero kung titignan natin ang mga dams natin ay lumalabas po na hindi naman sila ganun ka-komportable pa ang mga lebel niyan,” NWRB executive director Dr. Sevillo David Jr. said at a public briefing. David said the recent rains did not reach the watershed.

According to David, the water level in Angat Dam is at 189.54 meters, which is still not enough to secure water supply for Metro Manila households and farmers in Bulacan and Pampanga. David said Angat Dam should reach at least 212 meters by the end of the year to ensure that enough water supply will be provided to concerned consumers during the dry season. Aside from Angat, the water level in Pantabangan and San Roque Dams are also low at 196.98 meters and 264 meters, respectively, compared to their respective Normal High Water Levels at 218.50 meters and 280 meters.

In light of this, David encouraged the public to conserve water.
