July 10 ------ Andrew Garfield has nothing but praises for Filipino tennis player Alexandra “Alex” Eala, after the “Spider-Man” actor witnessed the latter’s winning match against Poland’s Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon. Garfield cheered for Eala last July 4 at the Centre Court in the United Kingdom, watching the game alongside his actress girlfriend Monica Barbaro.
Asked for his reaction to Eala’s victory during an interview with British Vogue, the British-American actor said, “It’s one of those special moments you get to share with an athlete who’s just beginning on her journey. It was really kind of inspiring actually.”
Aside from Garfield, also among the celebrities who rooted for the 21-year-old tennis player was British actress-comedian Ambika Mod. “I’d really like Alexandra to win it all. That would be such an underdog story, and it’s so nice to see young women achieving their dreams,” Mod said during the same interview.
Aside from Garfield and Mod, other Hollywood celebrities who watched the match include Tom Hiddleston, Anna Wintour, Simone Ashley, Emma Corrin and Micheala Coel.
