July 9 ------ Alfred Vargas, who was named valedictorian during his recent graduation at the University of the Philippines School of Urban and Regional Planning (SURP), dedicated his diploma to his late manager Lolit Solis.

Solis was one of the people that Vargas mentioned during his graduation speech at UP Film Center over the weekend after he was awarded valedictorian of the Diploma on Urban and Regional Planning with the highest academic whole class of 2025. “Nay Lolit, para sa‘yo ang tagumpay na ito (this achievement is for you),” he said as he also thanked his wife, Yasmine, and their four children for their support.

The actor-politician gained a general weighted average of 1.0288 and earned the Dean’s Medallion. Prior to his new academic achievement, Vargas previously attained his undergraduate degree in AB Management Economics from Ateneo de Manila University in 2002.

In 2021, Vargas earned his Master’s degree in Public Administration from UP Diliman’s National College of Public Administration and Governance. He is currently taking his PhD in Urban and Regional Planning at SURP.

Vargas was managed by Solis for 21 years without contract. After the talent manager died of a heart attack on July 3, the actor penned a lengthy post on Instagram, expressing how “heartbroken” he was. “My heart is totally broken. I feel like a big part of my life is gone […] I lost my Mom […] You believed in me when many didn’t,” he expressed. “We have been together for 21 years, Nay Lolit. There is no contract. Just our word of honor and love we have held on to through our meaningful years together. This kind of partnership is rare. Through thick and thin indeed,” continued the actor-politician.
