Alexa Ilacad looks back on child star journey: ‘Baka talaga I was meant to do this’

MANILA, June 25 ------ Alexa Ilacad may only be 26, but after more than two decades in show business, the actress already laughs at being called a “veteran.”

In an episode of Oh My Gan, Alexa recalled how her journey began when she was just two years old. According to her, she was discovered by a talent scout who saw her while her mother was decorating their balcony for Halloween. “May dumadaan daw na taxi tapos biglang may taong bumaba. It was an agent or talent scout,” Alexa shared. She eventually went to her first VTR and immediately got part.

Looking back, Alexa said she still wonders how she was able to follow directions at such a young age. “Hindi ko alam how I was able to do all the things I did. Doon ko na-realize na baka talaga I was meant to do this,” she said. Before becoming part of Goin’ Bulilit, Alexa also appeared in commercials and took on several young roles. At eight years old, she auditioned for Goin’ Bulilit alongside around 3,000 other children.

She recalled being shortlisted after two months and eventually making it to the final group. Despite starting early, Alexa said she does not feel that showbiz took away her childhood. “I had a good childhood. Wala namang na-take away,” she said.

However, Alexa admitted that growing up in front of the public came with its own challenges. “Growing up in front of everybody is not for the faint of heart. Kailangan talaga maka-develop ka ng thick skin,” she said. For Alexa, her childhood in showbiz was not perfect, but it shaped the artist and woman she is today.
