Alexa crowned Idol Kids PH champ, to share her winnings with classmates

MANILA, September 29 ------ Alexa Mendoza did not let coughs and colds stop her from delivering a powerful performance in the finale of Idol Kids Philippines. The rising star earned a near-perfect score of 98.88 and was crowned the inaugural champion of the competition.

"May ubo at sipon ako. Natakot po ako baka magkamali ako. Pero may tiwala ang Diyos," said Alexa after the Grand Showdown on Sunday in Quezon City. Alexa won an exclusive contract with Star Pop and a cash prize amounting to over P1 million. She performed the Eraserheads classic "Ang Huling El Bimbo" in the journey round, and an original composition titled "Maabot Ko."

The newly-crowned Idol Kids grand champion plans to celebrate her victory with her classmates, while her parents intend to save her prize money for Alexa's education. "Tutulungan ko classmates ko na walang school supplies," said Alexa.

For her parents, Alexa's victory is proof that everything happens for a reason. They fondly call her their "miracle child," as she was born when her mother Dannabeth was already 42 years old. "Pa-abroad na si Misis noon, (pa-Canada). May ticket na siya. Pero dumating si Alexa. So triny namin. Sobrang blessing si bunso. Nag stay siya at napatapos namin lahat ng anak college degree," said her father, Alejandro.

The judges also commended Kleid (85.38) and Quinn (80.99) for their performances. "May plano ang lord sa lahat inyo. Iilan lang makatapak sa entablado. Sigurado, maganda plano sa inyo," said Gary Valenciano to the other finalists.
