Alex Eala teams up with Hailey Baptiste for Italian Open doubles run

May 12 ------ After bowing out of the singles competition, Alex Eala will continue her campaign at the Italian Open doubles event.

The Filipina tennis star gets no break as she partners with American star Hailey Baptiste in the Round of 32, where they will clash with the second-seeded pair of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend. Siniakova and Townsend are no strangers to Eala. Eala previously faced the pair at the Madrid Open doubles tournament, where she and partner Zeynep Sönmez bowed out in the Round of 16 following a 6-1, 7-5 defeat.

Eala now links up with Baptiste, currently ranked No. 25 in singles and No. 129 in doubles, as she looks to breathe new life into a clay-court campaign that has so far proven to be a rocky one following a series of early exits in the past three WTA tournaments. The 24-year-old Baptiste holds one doubles title when she and Caty McNally ruled the Charleston Open in a grueling finals showdown with Ellen Perez and Storm Sanders in April 2021.
