Alex Eala rises to new career-high No. 28 in latest WTA rankings

July 14 ------ ALEX Eala's historic Wimbledon campaign has officially translated into another milestone. The Filipina tennis star climbed four spots to a new career-high world No. 28 in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released, eclipsing her previous best of No. 29 set earlier this year.

The 21-year-old made the jump after reaching the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time, highlighted by a stunning victory over defending champion Iga Swiatek before bowing out to eventual quarterfinalist Jasmine Paolini in three sets.

The new ranking places Eala in an even stronger position heading into the North American hard-court swing and the year's final Grand Slam, the US Open. On Sunday, the Filipina trailblazer returned to Manila to a hero's welcome. She is set to spend the good part of the week doing appearances and interviews before resuming her season with the hard-court swing.

She will next see action at the WTA 500 Mubadala DC Open on July 25 after a 12-4 grass-court campaign marked by a Round of 16 finish at Wimbledon, a semifinal appearance in Berlin, and a WTA 125 title in Birmingham.
