Alex Eala joins star-studded DC Open player list

July 21 ------ Filipina tennis star Alex Eala and tennis legend Venus Williams join the star-studded singles field of the Mubadala DC Open, a WTA 500 event.

Top players competing include WTA No. 3 Jessica Pegula and No. 10 Elina Svitolina. The powerhouse lineup also features No. 11 Marta Kostyuk, No. 13 Naomi Osaka, No. 18 Diana Shnaider, No. 15 Jasmine Paolini, and No. 20 Anna Kalinskaya.

Several other top 30 players are also set to clash, including Madison Keys, Leylah Fernandez, Clara Tauson, Emma Navarro, Anastasia Potapova, and Ann Li. Also competing are Magdalena Frech, Cristina Bucsa, Katerina Siniakova, Xinyu Wang, Qinwen Zheng, Liudmila Samsonova, and Eala’s 'SEA-ster', Janice Tjen.

The tournament's main draw is scheduled to run from July 27 to August 2.

Eala and Williams are also teaming up once again on the hardcourts. The Filipino rising star and the former world No. 1 have been confirmed as a wildcard pairing in the doubles draw at the Mubadala DC Open. “Dream Team,” the DC Open official page wrote on Instagram.

The two have history together on court, as they first partnered at the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open in Germany last June, winning their opening match over Alexandra Osborne and Catherine Harrison before bowing out in the quarterfinals. The reunion comes at a high point for Eala, who was just named Star of the Swing for the 2026 grass-court season.
