MANILA, December 23 ------ After a decade as a leading man, Alden Richards is embracing his first role as an antagonist in the Hollywood action film "Big Tiger."
According to the actor, portraying a villain has long been on his bucket list. "I have been dreaming about this, the bad guy," Richards said Sunday in Mandaluyong City. "Iba, medyo disturbing kasi hindi ako sanay. But at the end of the day, when I saw the teaser—I think I am going to like this job."
Richards describes his role as John Lynch as a significant shift that required him to explore new emotional and physical demands. "There are a lot of new experiences in terms of feelings, emotions, body language. Since this is an action film, stunt preps," he explained.
The "Hello, Love, Again" star noted that antagonist roles allow for greater range and unpredictability, adding depth to the performance. "Mas marami pwede laruin. At times the characterizations of antagonists, depending on the character, are quite eccentric and volatile. Good thing is I was guided by the director and writer," he said.
Richards also co-produced "Big Tiger," marking Myriad Entertainment’s first international project. "When my team and I had an idea of creating a production company, it was centered on giving back to the industry. I'm hoping this partnership we have is an opportunity to give back to the Filipinos. For us to be proud of something we have," he said. "We are also able to give jobs to Filipinos and showcase their talents. Most of the team from the US has nothing but good words. And nakaka proud naman maging Pilipino because of that. Big Tiger," which is written and directed by Keoni Waxman, is set to hit theaters globally in 2026.
Also part of the cast are "Big Short" actor Byron Mann, Katherine McNamara, Luke Goss, and Max Collins.
