MANILA, Philippines, August 8 ------ Alas Pilipinas resumes its quest for a breakthrough performance in the SEA Women’s V.League as it squares off with fancied Vietnam in today to start of the second and final leg at the latter’s home turf in Ninh Binh.
The Filipinas settled for their third straight bronze medal and fifth overall in this annual event in the opening leg in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand less than a week back. Somehow, the Nationals, who are preparing for this December’s Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, have made significant strides as they fought hard and stole a set from regional powerhouses Thailand and Vietnam in Korat.
Expected to spearhead the charge for the country is Angel Canino, who was named one of the two best outside spikers in the first leg, as well as Jia de Guzman, Alyssa Solomon, Bella Belen, Eya Laure and Fifi Sharma among others. Alas will then tackle first leg winner Thailand Saturday and then close out its campaign in this short but sweet tournament with a duel with Indonesia on Sunday.
