MANILA, March 31 ------ Airport fees, such as terminal and landing fees, will be lower starting April 1.

In a statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said the aeronautical fees for both landing and takeoff will be cut by nearly 50 percent, or as much as about P5,000 per landing. The passenger service charge for international travel will also be reduced to P700 from P900. Passenger service charge for domestic travel at international airports will be lowered from P350 to between P150 to P200.

For Principal Class 1 airports, fees will be dropped from P300 to P150–P200, while Principal Class 2 airports will see a decrease from P200 to P100. Community airport charges will also be lowered from P100 to P50. Last week, the Civil Aeronautics Board raised the fuel surcharge level from Level 4 to Level 8 from April 1 to 15.

For domestic passengers, this means surcharges of between P253 and P787, depending on the distance. This is more than double the previous Level 4 surcharges of between P117 and P342. Under the Level 8 bracket, international passengers can expect to pay between P835 and P6,209 in additional fees, depending on the distance of the destination. This is more than double the previous surcharges of between P386 and P2868.
