MANILA, November 18 ------ ABS-CBN bagged a slew of awards at the 21st Gawad Tanglaw Awards, taking home honors across news, entertainment, and lifestyle categories. Kapamilya news programs and personalities were recognized. TV Patrol was named the Best News Program, and TV Patrol Express was named the Best Innovative News Program.
“Nakita niyo naman po ang ABS-CBN sa kabila ng lahat ng hamon, nandoon pa rin sa kalamidad. Nandoon sa baha, nandoon sa lindol. Kahit lumiliit newsroom, tapat, matapang at buo ang ABS-CBN News sa original na misyon na ‘to. Ang TV Patrol ay boses ng bawat pilipino,” said Karen Davila, who received the award on behalf of the news team, in her speech during the ceremony held in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday. Davila and Karmina Constantino were honored with the Gawad Natatanging Brodkaster sa Sining at Kultura ng Midya at Komunikasyon. TV Patrol anchor Alvin Elchico was acknowledged as the Best TV News Anchor.
Other Kapamilya personalities recognized for their outstanding contributions were Charo Santos-Concio, who was given the Gawad Debbie Francisco Dianco, PhD para sa Pangmadlang Komunikasyon, and Donny Pangilinan, who was honored with Gawad Tanglaw ng Kabataang Pilipino. “Kahit hindi pa natin kaya baguhin buong bansa natin ng ganon lang, kaya pa rin natin maging ilaw sa maliliit nating mundo,” he said in his speech. “You don’t need to be powerful, famous, or even perfect. We just need to walk through life together and be a bit kinder.”
Best Actor and Actress honors also went to ABS-CBN talents. Kyle Echarri and Janine Gutierrez scored the titles for their performances in Pamilya Sagrado and Dirty Linen, respectively. Supporting acting awards, meanwhile, went to mother-daughter Janice de Belen (Dirty Linen) and Kaila Estrada (Linlang). “This moment is truly special for me and even more special, I get to share it with the woman I look up to the most, my mother,” Estrada said. “I want to thank the production team of Linlang for creating such a beautiful character that I had the pleasure of portraying,” she added.
McCoy de Leon received the Best Supporting Actor title for his work in Batang Quiapo. Pamilya Sagrado was also celebrated with the Best Teleserye as well as the Best Story accolade. Directors Laurea Fajardo, Andoy L. Ranay, and Rico Navarro were recognized for Best Director for the series.
