A Taste to Remember: FranSeth relives fond memories through classic Filipino pastries

September 9 ------ In iWant’s newest microdrama, “A Cake to Remember,” Francine Diaz takes on the role of Mandy, a struggling pastry shop owner who longs to rekindle the love she once shared with the man she was meant to marry, Landon, played by Seth Fedelin.

Years after their failed wedding—when Landon abandoned Mandy following an accident that left him with no memory of their relationship—their paths cross again in a twisted tale of love, loss, and second chances. With flavors tied to memories, FranSeth take a nostalgic bite as they revisit their favorite moments through beloved Filipino pastries many of us grew up loving in the “A Taste to Remember” challenge. First on the menu was bibingka, a traditional Filipino baked rice cake. Seth was instantly taken back to his childhood days, when bibingka stalls lined the streets outside churches alongside other local delicacies.

“Ang kinakain ko sa bibingka nung bata ako, ’yung cheese at pulang itlog lang sa ibabaw,” Seth revealed. Meanwhile, Francine shared that she prefers her bibingka plain. For Francine’s turn, Seth gave her a kabayan, a local bread he casually likened to a cupcake. “Masarap ’to, laging may ka-partner na kape,” Seth remarked. Francine then recalled how she and her siblings would travel to nearby towns just to buy it.

Up next was the sweet taste of a doughnut. Before taking a bite, FranSeth cracked jokes about the word “Bavarian,” showing off their playful chemistry. Seth admitted that he’s not much of a doughnut fan, but fondly remembered the aromatic scent of bakeries whenever doughnuts were being made, noting that they’re among the places with the best smells.

Seth next offered Francine a special cake flan topped with egg custard, similar to leche flan. While the sweetness suited her taste, Francine admitted that it might be a little tricky to bake. Carrying the flavor forward, Francine then handed Seth an ube cake flan. Seth lit up with nostalgia as he remembered how his grandmother loved making ube jam—one of the reasons ube has always been among his favorite flavors.

FranSeth next feasted on the well-loved Spanish bread. Seth noted that it now comes in various flavors, including cinnamon and cheese, yet remains a classic Filipino bread that many of us grew up loving.

The next baked good was ensaymada, which brought Francine back to her childhood. “’Yung lolo ko, ’yan ang paborito naming tinapay. Pero ‘yung walang cheese,” she shared, recalling how she would even end up in tears whenever too much time passed without having ensaymada.

Last on the table was Keso Cake. With a texture similar to banana bread, Seth watched as Francine took a bite. As their food journey came to an end, the Kapamilya love team took one last trip down memory lane. Francine revealed that ensaymada is her all-time favorite, while Seth chose bonete, small Filipino dinner rolls best enjoyed with butter. Francine agreed with his pick, wrapping up their nostalgic feast on a sweet and familiar note.
