MANILA, March 25 ------ Four years after tying the knot, Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo are the picture of a happily married couple. Amid their busy schedules, the couple continues to bring out the best in one another while exploring more possibilities in their fields.
Sarah recently received the Global Force Award from Billboard in an event in Los Angeles, making her the first Filipina to receive the honor. On Friday, she was recognized as the "Woman of the Year" by Billboard Philippines. On both occasions, Matteo was with Sarah as she received her awards. Meanwhile, he also stays busy -- Matteo hosts a morning show, stars in a teleserye, and owns and runs multiple businesses. He is a 2nd Lieutenant in the Philippine Army, runs triathlons, and is a fitness advocate. Both are endorsers of multiple brands.
This weekend, Matteo and Sarah organized the Green Market at G Studios, where they shared their lifestyle of eating plant-based food, and promoted brands that offer such products. "He made me realize na I can do so much more, I can be so much more. [He's] very supportive," Sarah said of her husband. "At saka [he's a] doer. Ako po, hanggang idea lang. Siya ang nage-execute. Parang itong G Studios namin, sila talaga ng Papa niya, [they] really made this happen." "You can't expect change when there's no first step. But it's a collaborative effort din," said Matteo. "Sarah, myself, the family make things happen. Today, in our stage of life, what's very interesting, motivating and inspiring is every time we travel, when I see her inspired, when I see her hunger burning, her heart, her desire to create change and do things, it burns in me." "Together, we try to create change to do bigger things together, because in life, there's so many things we can do together. It's not only for us, but it's for our society and for our country," he added. Matteo is extremely proud of Sarah, saying that she is "killing it." Yet he also points out that his wife "never ever takes credit solely for herself." "She always credits the people that build her art together with her. She always tells me, 'Love, it's always a collaborative effort'," he says.
Matteo and Sarah are also quick to give credit and appreciation to their parents for their success. Sarah shares that she has received congratulations from her Mommy Divine, whom she thanked in her acceptance speech in the Los Angeles Billboard event. "Yes, yes, thank you Lord," Sarah said when asked if she and her mother are now communicating. "Totoo naman [na] ang mga mommies po natin ang heroes natin. Our parents ang heroes natin. I love you, ma." "Love you, Ma," Matteo echoed. "We love our moms." The couple says their decision to shift to a mostly plant-based diet was mutual. To support local farmers, Sarah says some of their supply comes from her parents' farm in Tanay. "Si mama ko din, nagbe-benta ng fresh produce niya," she says. "Fruits, binibigyan ako ni mama. Red rice, ganiyan, favorite ko."
The G Studios in Alabang was also a shared idea by husband and wife. "It started during the pandemic, kasi 'yung mga materials namin, we were doing it on our own," Sarah said. "Si Matt ang cameraman ko, light man ko. And lahat ng materials namin turned out really nice. Naiiba siya sa lahat. Parang commercial 'yung quality ng mga ilawan namin, so sabi namin, 'Parang pwede tayong magtayo ng production house'." "It was just a small idea, it's moved onto something bigger. Now we have a physical space na G Studios," said Matteo. While they are enjoying life as a married couple, Matteo and Sarah also look forward to having children. "When it comes, we will be grateful, God willing," said Sarah. Sarah will go on an international tour with Bamboo in the Middle East in April, followed by a mid-year tour in Australia and possibly the United States.
