83,673 persons have confirmed COVID-19 disease

July 29 ------ The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the country breached the 83,000-mark, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Tuesday. DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that 1,678 more people caught the dreaded illness, pushing the national caseload to 83,673. The top areas with the highest number of new cases were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 698, followed by Laguna with 218, Cebu with 100, Cavite with 87, and Davao Del Sur with 33.

The tally on recoveries also increased to 26,617 after 173 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness, while the death toll climbed to 1,947 with four new fatalities. “As of July 26, nakapag-conduct na po tayo ng 1,365,318 tests sa 1,274,027 individuals” said Vergeire. Meanwhile, the Health official clarified that those who have recovered from COVID-19 may still get a positive result in their swab test just like in the case of Senator Miguel Zubiri.

“Posible po na magkaroon ng positive result sa swab test kahit na gumaling mula sa COVID-19 dahil nadedetect pa rin ng RT-PCR ang konting remnants ng virus” said Vergeire. Also, Vergeire again noted that there is a possibility that those who have recovered can catch the virus again. “Para naman po sa antibodies, ayon po sa WHO, wala pa pong matibay na ebidensya na nagpapatunay na ang mga pasyente na nagrecover mula sa COVID-19 at may antibodies ay protektado na mula sa pangalawang impeksyon.”said Vergeire.

“Ang pagkakaroon ng antibodies ay senyales lamang na nag-mount na po ng immune response ang inyong katawan laban sa virus pero hindi po ibig sabihin na hindi ka na maaaring tamaan ng COVID-19” she added. “Kaya naman ay importante na mag-ingat ang lahat upang hindi mahawaan at hindi makahawa ng virus. Mag mask, physical distancing at laging maglinis ng paligid” she said.
