MANILA, July 15 ------ A total of 682 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) residing in the war-torn Israel have received financial assistance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Rapid Response Team (RRT).
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac reported that the RRT arrived in the country July 7, and since then provided assistance such as emergency relief and financial aid to OFWs brought to hospitals or whose residences were destroyed by the war. Another 188 OFWs received assistance before the RRT arrived in Israel, making the total number of recipients 870. “We feel they have adjusted to the situation here, but, of course, psychosocial counseling on a regular basis is imperative,” said DMW - National Capital Region Director Falconi Millar.
Meanwhile, DMW reported that a Filipina caregiver passed away on July 13, after undergoing multiple surgeries due to an injury she sustained during an Iranian missile attack. The Alert Level 2 or voluntary repatriation remains in effect in Israel and Iran. The second batch of repatriates from Israel, consisting of eight Filipino caregivers, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport evening of July 4.
