4 killed, 12 injured in poll-related incidents on election day - PNP

MANILA, May 13 ------ Four people were killed and 12 others were injured in various poll-related incidents on election day, May 12, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said. Two people died while eight others sustained injuries in a shooting incident in Barangay Mambulac in Silay City, Negros Occidental. Police have already launched a pursuit operation against the suspects.

 

In Lanao del Sur, a candidate for a municipal council seat in Bayang town and his brother were also killed in an attack by still unidentified gunmen. Meanwhile, two individuals were injured after being harassed by supporters of rivaling politicians in Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

 

Two more were likewise hurt after gunfire near a polling center in Bangued, Abra caused panic among voters. The injured individuals were immediately brought to the hospital. Aside from the mentioned incidents, the PNP also monitored on election day one robbery case in Northern Mindanao; one fire incident in the Metro Manila; and suspected flying voters and delays caused by issues with the automated counting machines in Bangsamoro.

 

Despite these incidents, PNP chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil said the midterm election remained “generally peaceful.”
