2 earthquakes jolt Eastern, Northern Samar towns Monday morning

MANILA, Philippines, September 29 ------ Two earthquakes struck off the waters of towns in Eastern and Northern Samar early Monday morning, the state seismologist said. In its earthquake bulletin, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 4.4 quake occurred east of Mapanas town in Northern Samar at 3:13 a.m.
The tremor was tectonic in nature and had a depth of 10 kilometers. Phivolcs also reported that Instrumental Intensity I was felt in Mapanas town. Meanwhile, a magnitude 4 earthquake struck east of San Julian town in Eastern Samar at 4:17 a.m. The tremor was also tectonic in origin and had a depth of 25 kilometers.
In an earlier bulletin, Phivolcs had raised the magnitude to 4.1, with a depth of 20 kilometers. Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity II: Borongan and Sulat City, Eastern Samar
- Intensity I: Can-avid, Eastern Samar
Phivolcs said no damage to property was reported, and aftershocks are expected from both earthquakes.
