Tab Baldwin fined P75,000, suspended three games by PBA

June 17 ------ TAB Baldwin has been slapped with a three-game suspension plus a P75,000 fine by the PBA for comments critical of the league, its referees, and coaches. The PBA announced the sanction on Tuesday, just a day after Baldwin aired his side in a conference call with league officials.

The Commissioner's Office said it deemed Baldwin's comments 'detrimental to the league.' Baldwin, as assistant coach for TNT KaTropa in the PBA, will serve the suspension once the league resumes its season that has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The American-New Zealander caused a stir with comments on the PBA officiating and tournament format and assessment of local coaches during a podcast. The Gilas Pilipinas program director also ruffled Filipino coaches by saying that they are ‘tactically immature.’ The statement has since been condemned by the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines.
