February 12 ------ South Korean TV Network SBS signed a contract on Tuesday with GMA Network to co-produce the “Running Man” series in the country. The network was given the green light to incorporate Filipino culture into the variety show. “We’re not just selling the “Running Man” Korean version but the adaptive of Filipino cultures and also Philippine artists,” SBS Korea Chief Global Contents Officer Kim Yong Jae was quoted in a report by GMA News. “Filipinos can expect a lot like example in China and Vietnam, we had a success so we hope Philippine fans would expect a lot,” he added.
According to the network, the “Running Man Philippines” is expected to be released in 2021. The stars of “Running Man” Korean version — Yoo Jae Suk, Kim Jong-kook, Lee Kwang-soo, Song Ji-hyo, Jeon So-min, Haha, Ji Seok-jin, and Yang Se-chan — will have a fan meeting-concert on June 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The TV show was one of the top Korean variety shows in the Philippines in 2019, according to OTT platform Viu. At the recent 2019 SBS Entertainment Awards, main emcee Yoo Jae-suk won the daesang, or grand prize, while “Running Man” was given the Global Programme Award. Other awards were: Haha, best entertainer; Kim Jong-kook, top excellence award (reality TV); Lee Kwang-soo, SNS star award; and Yang Se-chan, excellence award in show/variety.
