March 2 ------ The number of Filipinos repatriated from the M/V Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan who have shown symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has reached 13. According to Ralph Obina's Sunday report on Super Radyo dzBB, Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said three more Filipinos were added to the initial 10 being monitored for COVID-19 after showing respiratory illness symptoms.
The first 10 repatriates, however, already tested negative for the virus, Rosario said. The DOH is awaiting the test results of the three repatriates. A total of 445 Filipino repatriates arrived in the Philippines on Tuesday and were immediately brought to the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac for their 14-day quarantine period. Meanwhile, the number of Filipinos abroad who have tested positive for the virus have climbed to 86 on Saturday, the latest being a woman in Singapore. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III has urged Filipinos to avoid crowded areas if it can be helped, while the Department of Tourism cancelled a month-long nationwide mall sale it had planned for March.
