PHL boxers Irish Magno, Riza Pasuit fall short of booking Olympic ticket

March 10 ------ Filipina boxers Irish Magno and Riza Pasuit both failed to book a slot for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after falling short in the Asia and Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Amman, Jordan, Monday (Jordan time). Magno lost to Indian six-time champ Mary Kom via unanimous decision in the quarterfinals of the women's flyweight division. Kom's win will bring the Indian champ to her second Olympics stint.

Meanwhile, Riza Pasuit lost to Chinese Taipei's Shih-Yi Wu via unanimous decision in the women's lightweight division. Last night, Eumir Marcial became the third Filipino to book a slot in the Olympics after advancing to the semifinals of the men's middleweight division. Earlier, world boxing champ Nesthy Petecio also fell short on her bid for an Olympic ticket.
