November 23 ------ The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tally rose to 418,818 on Sunday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,968 new infections, marking the 13th straight day with less than 2,000 new cases. Cavite logged the highest number of newly reported cases at 107, followed by Quezon City with 97, Davao City with 86, Laguna with 84, and Quezon with 77. Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries rose to 386,486 after 10,957 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.

The DOH earlier said it would report time-based recoveries every Sunday as part of its “Oplan Recovery” initiative, where asymptomatic and mild cases are re-tagged as recovered after completing a 14-day quarantine without developing symptoms. The death toll also climbed to 8,123 with 43 new fatalities. The remaining 24,209 are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 82.5 percent of which are mild, 8.2 percent are asymptomatic, 3.2 percent are severe, and 5.8 percent are in critical condition. Globally, COVID-19 has claimed over 1.3 million lives and infected more than 57.8 million people.
