OCTA reports higher positivity rate in Metro Manila anew


Metro Manila, July 2 ------ The OCTA Research group said the COVID-19 positivity rate, or the percentage of infected people out of all tested, climbed in at least 10 areas of the country, including the capital region.


Data on select areas from June 25 to June 29 shared by OCTA Research fellow Guido David showed the figure in Metro Manila rose from 6% to 7.5%. The World Health Organization recommends the positivity rate to be less than 5% to say that viral transmission is under control. But among those listed by OCTA, Cavite saw the sharpest increase, from 5.9% to 13.2%. Other areas in Luzon also logged higher positivity rates, including Laguna (from 7.6% to 8.8%); Pampanga (from 5.9% to 7.7%); Batangas (from 5.6% to 6.6%); Benguet (from 3.2% to 6%); and Bulacan (from 2.9% to 4%). In Visayas and Mindanao, the group listed Iloilo (from 5.7% to 6.9%); Cebu (from 2.8% to 3.5%); and Davao del Sur (from 2.1% to 3.3%).


Meanwhile, OCTA said Rizal province’s positivity rate dipped from 11.9% to 9.7% during the same time-period. According to the Department of Health website, 1,309 new COVID-19 infections were added on June 30. Active cases as are at 7,871, out of a total case tally of 3.7 million since the pandemic began. Recoveries are at 3.63 million, while at least 60,555 have died from the viral illness.
