September 17 ------ The reproduction number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the National Capital Region (NCR) decreased to 1.28, the OCTA Research said Thursday, Sept. 16. OCTA fellow Prof. Guido David said the reproduction number, which refers to the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual, in the NCR dipped to 1.28 from 1.39. David noted that the one-week growth rate of the cases in the region drops to 9 percent from Sept. 8 to 15 compared to the 14 percent recorded from Sept. 2 to 8.
The metropolis had an average of 5,819 cases per day over the past week, he reported, while the daily attack rate per 100,000 population rose to 41.66 from the previous 38.24. “NCR has not yet peaked but there is hope that it may happen in one to two weeks,” David wrote in a Twitter post. The region’s positivity rate, on the other hand, remained at 25 percent. On Thursday, authorities started the pilot implementation of the alert level classification system as part of the government’s efforts to curb the spread of infection. Metro Manila has been placed under Alert Level 4, the second highest alert level.
