February 23 ------ Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) President Al Panlilio announced on Tuesday that Joshua Eugene Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Moala Tautuaa and Jaymar Perez are the final four players to the FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament as recommended by the SBP Selection Committee chaired by Executive Director Sonny Barrios with Coaches Jong Uichico, Pat Aquino, Ronnie Magsanoc and Eric Altamirano as members.
Munzon, a 6-foot-4 swingman, is ranked as the Philippines' top 3x3 player. The Fil-Am played for AMA Online in the PBA D-League as well as for Pasig Chooks in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 and the Saigon Heat and the Westports Malaysia Dragons in the Asean Basketball League. Pasaol, who also stands 6-foot-4, suited up for the University of the East and currently plays for Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines in the Maharlikha Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Tautuaa, a 6-foot-8 center, was the number one overall pick in the 2015 PBA Draft. The San Miguel Beerman was part of the gold medal-winning Philippine 3x3 team in the 2019 SEA Games.
Perez, who is the favorite for PBA Rookie-of-the-Year, is a 6-foot-2 guard for the Columbia Dyip in the PBA. The former Lyceum Pirate and NCAA MVP also won gold with Tautuaa in 3x3 basketball during the recent SEA Games. Serbian Coach Stefan Stojajic and Conditioning Coach Darko Krsman are overseeing the day-to-day training program of the team. The 3x3 OQT is scheduled on March 18 - 22, 2020 in Bengaluru, India. There are 20 confirmed participating teams - 4 pools of 5 teams each. Top two teams from each pool will advance to the playoffs and the top three teams will qualify to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. It is an honor for the Philippines to be with the top 20 countries vying for seats at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
