Margot Robbie to star in female-led ‘Pirates of the Carribean’

July 1 ------ Australian actress Margot Robbie is starring in a new, female-led “Pirates of the Carribean.” No plot details were available but the story is being written by “Birds of Prey” screenwriter Christina Hodson and produced by Pirates filmmaker Jerry Bruckheimer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney film is in “early development” and will be separate from a “Pirates” franchise reboot.

Robbie’s “Pirates” will feature new characters and won’t be a spinoff of the Johnny Depp movie. The “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” which was released in 2003, is among the highest-grossing film franchises worldwide, with the past five movies earning $4.5 billion.
