March 28 ------ Former ONE bantamweight Filipino champion Kevin Belingon is raring to return to action months after losing to Brazil’s Bibiano Fernandez in ONE: Century 2 last October.
Belingon reworked his wrestling skills and is hoping to be included in the promotion’s flagship event, ONE INFINITY 1, on May 29 at Mall of Asia Arena. “There are a lot of names in the bantamweight division. Whoever they give me, I’ll take them on,” he said in ONE Championship’s official website.
But the one name he’s looking to take on is another Brazilian and a former UFC fighter. “It will be exciting if they give me John Lineker. It will be a very good match,” Belingon said.
Lineker trains at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla., and he has long been considered one of the top MMA bantamweights in the world. The 29-year-old made his ONE debut last October when he defeated Muin Gafurov via unanimous decision in in ONE: Dawn of Valor. “You see how he fights? He has excellent striking, and he is really good. So if we cross paths, it will be a barn burner, for sure,” said Belingon.
