October 17 ------ The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines is opening a year-long academic program for aspiring Filipino leaders. The embassy announced Thursday, Oct. 14, that application for the 2022 Young Leaders’ Program (YLP) is now open. It is a one-year long academic program launched by the Government of Japan and is also one of the Japanese Government (MEXT) scholarship programs.

It aims to contribute towards the development of national leaders from various countries through deepening their understanding of Japan. “The program hopes to help in the professional growth and development of its participants and enable them to form strong connections with fellow peers from different countries,” the embassy said. “The ideal is for these participants to become future leaders and work together in contributing significantly to the economic, social, and political development of their home countries,” it added.

Grantees of the program may choose to specialize in Business Administration, Law, School of Government – Public Administration, or School of Local Governance. Classes will be conducted primarily in English. It was disclosed that the program will start around September-October 2022, and a master’s degree will be conferred to participants upon successful completion of the program. To qualify for the program, interested applicants must be a Filipino citizen, a Bachelor’s degree holder with excellent academic records, highly proficient in English, under 40 years old, and employed with at least three to five years of work experience. All YLP applications must be coursed through the specific recommending authorities for each course. The deadline of application submissions will depend on each recommending authority.
