Gamboa 'out of the woods' but two generals still in unstable condition

March 6 ------ Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Archie Gamboa is already "out of the woods" although still confined at a hospital following Thursday morning's helicopter crash in Laguna, acting PNP spokesman Police Major General Benigno Durana Jr. said Friday. "Salamat sa Diyos at si General Gamboa ay out of the woods na, in fact very minor lang kanyang injuries," Durana said in an interview on Unang Balita. PNP Director for Intelligence Police Major General Mariel Magaway and Director for Comptrollership Police Major General Jose Maria Ramos, however, were still in "unstable" condition, Durana said.

"Unstable pa rin ang kanilang kalagayan. Hopefully within the next 48 hours sana ay mag-improve na," he said. Magaway, he added, showed "little signs of improvement." "Kaya patuloy ang pagtingin sa kanila, sa pag-stabilize sa kanilang kalagayan." The three ranking generals, together with PNP spokesman Brigadier General Bernard Banac, two aides and two pilots, were onboard the Bell 429 chopper when it crashed in San Pedro City in Laguna on Thursday morning.

Durana said Banac and the others sustained scratches and are "in high spirits" despite their confinement at the hospital. "Gusto na nilang magpa-release but according to the doctor they need to be observed within 48 hours starting yesterday para makasiguro ng kanilang full recovery. They are in high spirits," he said.
