Bago City team advances to quarterfinals in junior softball World Series

MANILA, Philippines, August 5 ------ The other team put up by Bago City, Negros Occidental to compete in the United States booked a spot in the quarterfinals despite dropping its final assignment in pool play of the Junior League Softball World Series in Kirkland, Washington.

Bago City fell 7-1 to Jenison, Michigan, on Thursday (Manila time) to finish with a 2-2 record but its win-loss mark was enough to earn a place in the crossover quarterfinals as one of the four best teams in Pool A. Representing the Asia-Pacific region, Bago City will take on Columbus, Texas, on Friday (Manila time) for a chance to reach the semifinals. After a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Southeast region’s Irmo, South Carolina, Bago City bounced back with a 10-0 rout of Redmond, Washington.

Althea Key Palzario and Layle Baladjay combined for nine strikeouts and Claire Olarte drove in four runs during the game that ended after six innings due to a mercy rule. Palzario fanned eight while Olarte homered in the fourth inning as Bago City blanked Canada’s Victoria, British Columbia, 9-0.

Meanwhile, Bago City fell short against District 9 of Texas, 10-1, in the Senior League Softball World Series in Lower Sussex, Delaware. It was Bago City’s first loss in pool play after a 2-0 start in pool play.
