May 20 ------ The hit Filipino musical “Ang Huling El Bimbo the Musical” successfully raised over P12 million donations from viewers during its online run for its fund-raising campaign. Full House Theater Company, the creator of the musical, made the announcement on Monday.
“Kami ngayo’y lumilipad at nasa langit na… dahil sa tindi ng inyong naging suporta! Salamat sa lahat ng nag-donate! Marami po tayong matutulungan dahil dito! (We are now flying and in heaven… because of your great support! Thanks to everyone who donated! We could help lots of people because of this!)” the theater production company wrote on Facebook.
The fund-raising campaign was in partnership with ABS-CBN’s “Pantawid ng Pag-ibig” program that aims to give aid to the families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The original Filipino production garnered more than 5 million views online during its 48-hour free streaming on YouTube and Facebook on May 8 to May 9.
This was the first time the production was put online for free. Prior to that, “Ang Huling El Bimbo the Musical” had staged more than 100 runs at Resorts World Manila’s Newport Performing Arts Theater. The musical first premiered in July 2018. “Ang Huling El Bimbo the Musical” is a story of friendship told through the popular song of iconic Filipino rock band Eraserheads.
