March 21 ------ Singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette postponed her show in Manila, Japan, Australia and New Zealand in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Rock band Boys Like Girls also moved its concert in the country to September. The Grammy award-winning Canadian singer emphasized that “the safety of everyone comes first,” when she confirmed her shows’ postponement on her Facebook page last Monday, March 16.
Morissette was scheduled to perform in the country this April 6 and 7 at the Mall of Asia Area in Pasay City. Her 2020 “Jagged Little Pill” world tour was meant to celebrate the 25th year of the said album which gave life to some of her greatest hits such as “Hands in My Pocket”, “Ironic”, “You Oughta Know” and more. Morissette urged her fans to hang on to their tickets as details about the rescheduled shows are “to come soon.” “[T]ake care of yourself, of each other. [I] love you,” she said.
Meanwhile, Boys Like Girls will instead be staging its shows from Sept. 15 to 17. The band behind the songs “Thunder” and “The Great Escape” was supposed to play at The New Frontier Theater in Quezon City on April 16 in honor of its self-titled album. Boys Like Girls announced its rescheduled shows in Asia and Australia via its Facebook page, yesterday, March 18. The rock band will be performing in Cebu on Sept. 15. followed by two more shows in Manila on Sept. 16 and 17. “Sad to say, unfortunately due to the COVID-19 spread, we have to reschedule our [Asia and Australia] tour dates,” the band said. “We wanted to play so badly for you, but also we want to keep everyone safe and healthy.”
Boys Like Girl also confirmed that all previously purchased tickets will be valid during these new dates. The postponement of the shows of these two acts adds to the growing list of local and international events and concerts whose schedules have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This week, President Rodrigo Duterte has placed the entire Luzon under an enhanced community quarantine. During this period, mass gatherings such as concerts are prohibited to prevent the further spread of the virus. The public is also ordered to observe home quarantine while all air, land and water travel are restricted.
