OWWA Launches MOFYA 2009

July 23, 2009 - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) formally launches the 2009 Model OFW of the Year Award (MOFYA) at simple ceremonies held at Casa Marinero, Intramuros, Manila.

According to OWWA Administrator Carmelita S. Dimzon, the annual award gives recognition to OFWs and their families who have managed the impact of overseas employment and maintained strong family ties. They are “model OFWs who have used the gains of working abroad to their best advantage, are achievers in both their professions and education, and have made an outstanding impact in their community,” Dimzon elaborated. MOFYA Nomination Forms are available at all OWWA regional as well as overseas post offices.

Labor Sec. Marianito D. Roque, under whose previous stint as OWWA Administrator the MOFYA was conceived and launched, stressed that MOFYA is one of the few, if not the only, formal recognition and honor bestowed on the families of OFWs who have made good.

For more details and nomination forms, interested parties may call the DOLE 2917 Hotline (press “3” for OWWA) for free using Globe or TM cellphones nationwide. Non-Globe subscribers may dial 02-908-2917 for chargeable calls to the DOLE 2917 Hotline. Nomination period is until August 31.

The DOLE 2-917 Hotline was put up by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with Globe Telecom for the local workforce and OFWs seeking immediate information on either local and overseas jobs and other relevant updates and services.

Aside from the hotline, DOLE has also put up a DOLE 2917 Text Services that gives millions of Filipinos an easier means of reaching DOLE by simply texting DOLE to 2917 or DOLE ASK to 2917. OFWs or their family members may also send their urgent messages to the OWWA 24/7 Text Helpline 0917-TXT-OWWA (or 0917-898-6992).
